Subject: Closer to the truth
While this series exaggerates the strength of the Soviet supported communist movement, it hits the mark when describing the indifference to humanity of the 'Party'.

One comment on the existing recordings: IWCFBI_530311_047_WordGame.mp3 is missing the crucial court scene near the end where the bogus recording is played to the embarrassment, and subsequnet incarceration, of the communists.

Not going to get caught up in the new vs. modern ideas here. I dld this one on a whim, and have been completely suprised. It is a great spy type of show that I have become a bit addicted to. Still working my way through this, listening to 2 or 3 episodes a day. I recommend this one.

Subject: Red Menace Revealed
A bit forced sometimes but always a good bit of
tension over how Matthew Cvetic will thwart the
latest Red plans to subvert freedom and demo- cracy, and come up smelling like roses (red ones of course) in the eyes of his "comrades".
Many of a left wing political bent dismiss the series outright as pandering to red paranoia of the fifties, but a reading of any of the myriad books published by defectors or ex-KGB agents shows that the series was not as far off the mark(x) as you'd think.
Good job by Dana Andrews as Matthew Cvetic
and a tip of the hammer and sickle to William
Conrad for sounding like such a convincing communist despite a not too convincing accent.

Sometimes campy to modern ears, sometimes contrived to hammer home the party's message, sometimes a damn fine listen...how ever you parse this series it is decidedly a slice of time and place.

I have heard folks dismiss this series as being tied to only that slice of time and place from which it was forged but I wonder how far from the Red Scare mentality we "modern enlightened folks" think can not happen again?

When you listen to this series put your gestalt into the wayback machine and walk in the shoes of the shows intended listeners. Then come back to the now and look around at our media/mindset.

I have been surprised by this series more than a few times, I hope that you are as well.
