Insight: Women farmers / Chocolate / My favorite Mozart (January 27, 2006)
Farming is the Central Valley's oldest and biggest business. Jeffrey Callison profiles three Valley farmers, all of them women. They produce honey and other products from bees, raise alpacas, and produce cashmere. Each of the women on our show are featured in the book Outstanding in Their Fields: California's Women Farmers, published by the UC Davis Small Farm Center.
Local researchers have found a compound in chocolate that's good for your heart. Jeffrey speaks with Carl Keen, who heads the Department of Nutrition at UC Davis.
In honor of the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth, The Classical Station recently asked listeners to vote for their favorite Mozart compositions. Jeffrey previews KXPR's three-hour Mozart special with announcers Cheryl Dring and Michael Frost. They share music and read KXPR listener emails.
