Jack Anderton - Archive II - Electronic charts the progression from freeform Ambient
Acoustic music based on open-plan layers of acoustic ambience to filtered synths,
keyboard melodies and beats, spanning a 5 year period of music production.
Early electronic efforts can be seen with Io from the 2005 album Mushroom Clouds
which was a precursor to some of the music that followed, and pieces from the 2006
album Frequency that changed the tone away from guitars and choral vocals to electronic
music production. This is sat next to tracks from the recent past, that display the
progression in both style and production techniques.
Tracks such as Tomb Under The Moon, Trust and Too Early display a pop sensibility,
based around melodic hooks, while there are more experimental efforts on show with
Funicular, a that manages to cram in elements of musique concrete, shoegaze and
minimal techno all in the same track, and Flair, with its acoustic backing and layered
washes of synth sparking in the background.
The end product of this period of more electronic music production was an interesting mix
of popular electronic music with hooks and recognisable beats and more unusual ideas and
combinations melded together to make what at certain points sounds very different indeed.
Through its origins in ambient music, the album remains, despite its beats, an ambient
record at its core.
