Subject: Chiss Sweeze, indeed
There are so many contemporary cultural references it will having you alt-tabbing or alt-~ing to wikipedia; still, the Jack Benny program is classic. Excellent set up, timing, and delivery, and one of the best comedy teams ever with Jack, Mary, Rochester, Don, Phil, and Dennis (not to mention Mel Blanc and Frank "Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeess?" Nelson). I even marveled at the overarching storylines and numerous references to previous episodes, but then again, I'm fairly new to OTR. I doubt, however, that most comedy shows achieved the level of sophistication that The Jack Benny Program brought to households throughout the mid-30s to the 50s.
Highlights: The Whistler Parody, Mary's 'Chiss Sweeze' flub. Can't attest to all of the episodes' quality, so the previous reviewer has a point, but I couldn't leave this great program with a solitary one-star rating.

Subject: Not complete show
In listening to the episode of Jack Benny program, Unexpected guests 11/09/47, there seemed to be some problem in the editing. In the middle of the program, portions of another show have been inserted. The volume drops and Benny seems to be narrating his thoughts in what appears to be a parody of some dramatic sketch. Then a portion of the Turkey Trial is inserted from his after Thanksgiving show where he is put on trial for killing a turkey (a dream sequence). In short, the whole episode makes no sense at all.
