Guy Kibbee plays detective Jim Hanvey in this madcap '30s comedy/mystery. He's just great here. Took a little time for me to get into this one. One of the best scenes comes in the first act when a seemingly brainless, almost unconscious young couple at the center of the story confront Hanvey in his home. The plot, involving an emerald necklace and insurance money, gets complicated and the story is fast paced, though uneven, with plenty of twists. Still, I had fingered the remaining crook before Hanvey trapped him. I recognized
Edward Gargan and
Edward Brophy from many movies of the period, here playing the none-too-bright hired heavies.
I downloaded the 689MB DivX file. Video and audio quality were good.
