Fifties Television: Episode called "Bev's Boyfriend" of the notorious 1950's sitcom "I Married Joan". In this episode, Joan tries to get a guy to like her sister, but the guy falls in love with Joan instead! (Speaking of which, Joan Steven's sister is played by Joan Davis' real-life daughter). Not too bad at all, actually. This also proves a commonly accepted fact about the 1950's to be completely untrue: It's usually claimed that Hot Rod youth culture started around 1955-1957, this episode aired 1953. Who knows, maybe it started even earlier.

Pretty conventional plot in this episode, but the restaurant scene where Joan "falls apart" is HILARIOUS and the episode is worth a watch for that alone.

Considering that there are over 80 episodes of Joan( 98 ?? ), I wouldn't say I Married Joan was a total flop, forgotten?..ah yeah.
I Married Joan in the late 50's and early 60's was one of the most popular sitcoms in the rerun circuit. I Love Lucy I don't think hit that road until later in the 60's once CBS took off the show from the daytime schedule.
However once Joan Davis passed on in the Spring of 1961, most if not all local TV stations at the time yanked the show off their line-ups due to a question of taste..the laughing at someone who has died. There were exceptions though like Curly Howard ( Three Stooges ) and The Little Rascals but those shows back then attracted more kids than adults and the kids back then would laugh at anybody on TV/movies..living or dead as long as they were entertained. Sadly back then the adults didn't share that view.
It was a whole different time.

I know reviewing my own items is a criminal offense, but an item this good deserves to be seen. I will admit it's like as awesome as "Design for Dreaming", but for a flop sitcom, this is pretty funny.
