Lonesome Tofu Expressway Rambling StringbandLonesome Tofu Expressway - The Kuzumaki Sessions (May 27, 2004)

Would you like to try our new video/audio player ? (beta!)

Cripple Creek, Whiskey Before Breakfast, I'm On My Way Back to the Old Home, Old Joe Clark, Mole in the Ground
---
The Lonesome Tofu Expressway Rambling Stringband--Lonesome Tofu Expressway for short, Tofex for shorter--crowded around the mic at Tom Watson's place in Kuzumaki, Iwate, Japan one cool May night in 2004 and came up with this. All for fun, of course.

The band members include Daniel Conway on the guitar, Elizabeth Gordon on the fiddle, and Forrest Oliphant on the banjo and harmonica. All of them sing vocals.

I just sat down to write my daily 100 word story contribution for The Onomonapoetical Society. Each day we write a complete story in exactly one hundred words and use onomatopoeia which is a word that's sound suggests it sense such as buzz or smack.

Prefering to write to music I clicked over to the Netlabel additions and randomly clicked an interesting looking group name. Lonesome Tofu Expressway had me, though I hadn't caught the string band part yet and I was expecting electronica since that's what I've mostly seen in the fews days that I've been downloading from archive.org.

Our word for the day was glug and I had absolutely no idea what to write. I dragged Cripple Creek into Winamp and hit play. Within the first two bars a story flashed through my head. I wouldn't have expected to find myself listening to music like this but found myself enjoying the song so much that I downloaded the whole album and was pleasantly surprised by each track.

Here's a link to the story for those interested - http://www.livejournal.com/community/onomatopoets/2367.html
