"this is one of those little treasures you can find on
archive.org... it's from the "youth media" section, a short called "toy car" (2004), made by two 11 year olds in b/w super-8. just watch it... this is really wild, like "bonnie and clyde" for kids - it sort of looks like an old silent movie, no dialogues, just the music. it's fast-paced (some great editing!), it's raw and it feels very real. the story it tells is a kind of daydream fantasy: it's about breaking out of the normal, having fun, getting away from it all... it's an age old story, just like any story, but it's obviously the filmmaker's own story - they even show themselves at the end! the grainy b/w super-8 look works really well and the lack of dialogue is just part of the movie's cinematic quality. there is a link from the "toy car" site on
archive.org that leads you to a film-school for young filmmakers (...)"
