This is the full 12-14-08 episode of the Labor Express Radio program.
Republic Windows & Doors workers WIN! Only 6 days after under taking the first factory occupation in the United States since the late 1930’s, the workers at Republic Windows & Doors in Chicago defeat both Republic management and Bank of America, winning the severance package they were due under federal law. The action of the workers at Republic was international news within days of the worker’s decision to occupy the factory and inspired widespread support from working people locally, nationally and around the globe. The use of direct action by the workers at Republic has sent shock waves through the labor movement, causing many to wonder if such bold, militant action while become more common in the face of the deepening economic crisis. The role of Bank of America also highlights the failure of the 700 billion dollar bank bailout to stem the financial crisis (for more listen to the 12-7-08 episode as well).
Also in this episode, the Coalition of Immokalee Workers announces their 4th victory in 5 years, this time over Subway.
