Jerry Mead-LuceroLabor Express for 4-19-09

This is the full 4-19-09 episode of the Labor Express Radio program.

On Wednesday in Gary IN., employees of Edgewater Systems for Balanced Living, a community mental health clinic, who are members of Teamsters Local 743, held a rally in front of the center. The workers are currently in contract negotiations and are frustrated with management’s unwillingness to budge on wages, safety concerns and staffing levels.

On Friday, employees of Commercial Forged Products on Chicago Southwest Side, members of Steelworkers Local 2154, held a rally of their own. These workers are fed up with a long history at their plant of racial insensitive on the part of management and constant harassment of pro-union employees. I spoke with union President Charles Gilyard about the situation last Monday and talked with a few of the workers at Friday’s rally. You will hear those interviews in the second half of tonight’s program.

Labor Express Radio is Chicago's only English language labor news and current affairs program. News for working people, by working people. Labor Express Radio airs every Sunday night at 7:00 PM on Chicago's independent community radio station, WLUW. For more information, see our website at... www.laborexpress.org
