Subject: He's still my hero
It broke my heart to see the frailness that has overtaken him. But it really bugged me that people were walking about as they did. I think they should have given him more respect. He is still number one in my book and always will be. I admire him for that effort and he did just fine by me.

On one hand, it's fascinating watching a legend, watching at any time late in his career. It's not expected that Mr. Cash (or any performer that many years into his career, and at that late an age) will perform as you expect or wanted him to. There's a degree of greatness to it, and in this case, knowing how close to the end of his life this performance was, there's a sense of goodness. At the same time, having seen Johnny Cash through the years, a young and then middle-aged performer, there's a heartbreak to seeing him physically as he is, and seeing how hard it is to outwardly perform. You can easily see how he wants to perform; the difficulty is watching him perform. Maybe its best, and I've tried it, listening with eyes closed, knowing how he looks, but imagining what used to be.
