We Love Linda
When I was a teenager, I ordered Linda's cassettes from Sonic Options magazine just based on the description of her multi-tracking and gentle voice. Those were the days when reviews in cool audio magazines were the way to get audio that was not getting radio play. Learning that Ms. Smith lived nearby, I wrote to her, and she agreed to meet me. We went to a show and had a lovely evening. Well, at least I did. I was just an enthusiastic punk kid, so I probably talked about silly things and the show was my choice of hardcore punk, so probably not a very interesting time for Ms. Smith. I remember she wore a beatnik outfit, all black with a beret, and as being as gentle as her music (which I had everyone I knew listen to back then). These tapes still hold a dear place in my heart [and so do Don Campeau recordngs]. I hope Linda Smith's early tapes appearing on the Internet Archive will help to work their way into many new hearts and not be lost to obscurity.
