Esteban Espinoza is an introverted taxidermist perfectly suited to solitary, meticulous work. Though private and unassuming, he is remarkably observant, an attribute that lends itself to masterminding perfect robberies in his head. After his wife leaves him, Espinoza accepts a friend's invitation to go hunting in Patagonia. When an accidental death presents him with the chance to pull off a real heist, Espinoza naively places himself in the centre of a scheme to rob an armoured van. Unlike those in his imagination, however, this is a real crime with real criminals. Espinoza also suffers from epilepsy, and "el aura" refers to the eerie, frozen moment before a seizure when Espinoza knows it is coming but can do nothing about it. Argentina's official submission to the 2006 Academy Awards for the category of Foreign Language Film. Screened at 2006 Sundance Film Festival and 2007 San Diego Latino Film Festival.DRAMA/MEX (Mexico, 92 min., Dir. Gerardo Naranjo) will be screened daily at ? pm, ? pm, and ? pm. Two interlaced stories unfold over the course of the same long, hot day in the once lush and now decadent resort town of Acapulco. The first involves the beautiful and cool Fernanda, who is forced to deal with the sudden emergence of the ex-lover, Chino. Her boyfriend, Gonzalo, must now compete with the intense sexual tension Fernanda and Chino share. The second story concerns Jamie, an office worker with hidden indiscretions, attempting suicide in a beach front hotel until a precocious and equally dishonest teenage girl disrupts the plan. They will all converge in a stark and harrowing portrayal of moral ambiguity. Brought to you by Executive Producers Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna. Screened at Cannes Film Festival 2006.
