Social Climbing Succes Story
Robert Armstrong does not quite pull it off playing a 30 year old here (he was 44 when he made this film) but does pull off being a smart servant who helps his employers to become more human when their fortune vanishes with a stock market collapse.
This is an entertaining story of love conquering high society's conventions and climbing the social ladder.
Of special interest are the many props most modern viewers will barely notice but that were considered the height of cutting edge home appliances in 1934. An electric vacuum cleaner; a large electric refrigerator; a spacious kitchen with counters; an electric coil stove; etc. The national electric grid was not 90% completed until the middle of the Eisenhower administration, so for many audiences seeing this film during the Great Depression, there were many wonders of the future that only the very rich had.
