Meshed Mixages

by Charles Rice Goff III, Bret Hart, & Hal McGee

This collaboration combines the skills of three sound sculptors who each possess a substantial cache of experience in the world of experimental sonic composition.

The project began in North Carolina, where Bret Hart produced over an hour of raw recordings. Hart's initial compositions incorporated several homemade and otherwise unique string instruments and percussion generators.

The next stop for the project was Kansas, where C. Goff III reworked Hart's recordings in a number of ways. Goff added sonic effects to Hart's pieces in some places and mixed in unique sounds and instrumental bits of his own in others. Goff also incorporated several samples of spoken verbiage into his mixes.

The last stop for this collaboration was Florida, where Hal McGee 'finished' the collection of recordings by further rearranging Goff's materials and by adding several unique sounds of his own. He also incorporated some of Hart's initial recordings (untreated by Goff) into his mixes. McGee's influence comes across most notably through the many synthesizer sounds on the album.

The finished result, "Meshed Mixages," was released by all three composers on their various independent labels in 2002. All nineteen compositions are presented here:
