Author's comments:
I first did a 10% normal run on the emulator around the day after it came out. I used charge as my extra item, and I recorded it as well, only to be shut down with the 'no emulator runs' rule, and while I was kinda mad, it made sense and gave me a reason to buy a gameboy player. Soon after it was discovered that 10% is the lowest possible percent for hard mode, what with the 2 missiles per expansion, and that left me with three choices: an extra missile, an extra super missile, or screw attack. Screw attack required me to actually get screw attack, which is way out of the way, and also means I have one less missile or sm for... everything (especially the zebetites before motherbraind... SO bad). Getting a supermissile only gave me about 2 choices of which to get, either the one after you kill Imago (who would be very tough and time consuming with only 2 missiles) or the one above Ridley's room, where you have to dodge the missile tank. I've never tried to get that one, and I didn't this time either. Getting an extra missile just seems so... convenient.
As for my route, I got the Varia, which might seem kinda unneccesary, but at the time of recording this I felt that it was. I also did Kraid first, which means no power grip, but I handled it ok. Since then, however, I have done a no-varia Ridley first run, and it's looking much faster (at around Mother Brain), so I know I can beat this time. I hope you enjoy it and maybe even learn something from it.
