The Mickey Mouse Theater of the Air

Episodes of the old-time radio children's series "The Mickey Mouse Theater of the Air".

"The Mickey Mouse Theater of the Air" was a musical-variety radio series for children, sponsored by Pepsodent and broadcast on NBC from the Disney Little Theater on the RKO lot from January 2 to May 15, 1938. It was created to help promote the release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Music for the program was provided by the Felix Mills Orchestra, Donald Duck's Swing Band, and The Minnie Mouse Woodland Choir. The opening theme was "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?". John Hiestan was the announcer for this Sunday afternoon show, and it featured regular Disney characters like Mickey Mouse (Walt Disney for the first four episodes), Donald Duck (Clarence Nash), Minnie Mouse (Thelma Boardman), Goofy (Stuart Buchanan), and Clarabelle Cow (Florence Gill).

Subject: Fascinating Disney Program
What a fabulous find! I can well imagine families listening to this program together of a Sunday. To hear these shows is to find a wonderful piece of Disney History, their promotion of their product and the connection with their audience, young and old. Walt Disney is in fine voice both as himself and as Mickey Mouse. It's fun to spot Mel Blanc in many various roles and voices. He did those hiccuping routines frequently and always to good effect. Billy Bletcher was such a mainstay in the cartoons, that he was necessary for he to be in the radio series. I noted with interest that Verna Felton played Cinderella's Fairy Godmother in the radio episode and almost 12 years later for the Animated Feature film. A young but identifiable Hans Conried was the Pied Piper, and he spoke his lines with a slight Germanic accent.
There were 20 episodes in all. Are these seven the only programs that survive?
