Most of the parsha is a shir. âMoshe came.â Where did he come from? Why does it say âin the ears of the peopleâ? Why has Yeshoshua lost the yud in the front of his name? To show that he is just as humble as he was before he was the leader, since he was given the yud prefix when he was elevated from being just another student of Mosheâs. When people have power, they change. However, with Yehoshua, his essence did not change. During his lifetime the people were always united.
A miracle means that what we perceive as a law of nature doesnât exist any more. A donkey can speak. Intelligence is a gift given to us, it can be withdrawn. We donât own our intelligence. Itâs continually given to us. Intelligence can be given to other objects. The final of the ten songs will be sung when are redeemed from this exile. Torah must be pursued actively. We need to apply our heart, not our logic. Doing something for external reasons will lead to an internal shift. You canât do teshuva externally. Circumcision is removing a barrier of physical pleasure. Circumcision of the heart is becoming vulnerable, things are now allowed to penetrate. G*d says to us, when we uncover our heart donât be scared, He will be there. Torah is meant to penetrate our hearts. On Yom Kippur we are nothing more than what is in our hearts. If we eat, we are cut off from G*d because weâre saying that we donât want to feel. Fasting is an opportunity because it is the way we drive ourselves towards our inner being, not one of our roles. Pesach is the time of our freedom. Shavuos is the purpose of freedom. Sukkot is the time of our rejoicing. We donât understand happiness until we understand Sukkot. Happiness is from the inside out. Happiness is not a feeling. How our heart relate to the world outside. The opening of the heart and acceptance of our place as a human being and G*dâs place as G*d. When we have the need control, the heart closes. A song is something from within that is expressed outwardly.
