Television sure was different in 1950. I really like Miss Hollywood(or was that Miss Los Angeles, love her bathing suit)I had originally seen portions of this on WGN channel 9 Fortieth Anniversary special that aired in 1988.I recently downloaded this classic 1950's gem and will cherish it forever.thank you.

Television in the 1950s was so fun. It was a time of innocence. It was never over-produced like the crap shown on TV today.

Hi Dwight, would it be possible to use this in my film? It's a non-commercial student documentary about the 1950's, would only be posted online (and possibly submitted to festivals but there would be no commercial value to that either) and I would of course credit you for the use of it.

The pianist is none other than a young Bob Trendler, who became the band leader on Bozo's Circus many years later. Trendler was musical director for WGN at the time. As a child, I heard him perform live on the piano numerous times, but I didn't realize until watching this Miss Television 1950 Contest how fluent he actually was on that instrument.

I had to laugh at the opening of the show with Karl Rove sitting there with his stogy in one hand and a TV Guide in the other. In reality the joke is on me. After February 17 I won't get anything on my set. And I am not getting cable.
It seems like there is a Dumont following on this site which is cool. I was four when the network folded and I don't remember it. But I grew up with a Dumont television set. I big, blond-wood box with four legs and rotating UHF slider behind the VHF turn knob. You could go blind watching that thing!

No fancy sets, lightings, or big studio set up, but this program had a simple charm and was fun to watch. Eddie Adams was so cute and talented.

An interesting show from the early days of US television & it shows, people walking behind curtains etc. - but that just adds to the charm.
Some good lookin' girls who like to sing, but the Betty Page look alike from New Orleans (10 mins in) is HOT - worth the download just for her. :)

Wow! Tasteful, Classy, Smart but with some weirdness as well, this is DuMont at their best. Here are some interesting things about this broadcast:
1. It was produced by DuMont affiliate WGN-TV to the entire nation. Back in the 50's, quite a few national DuMont programs were made by them.
2. It was broadcast live, and recorded primitively by Kinescope or "Teletranscription" as DuMont called it (NBC called it "Kinephoto").
3. Contestant Edith Adams later became known as Edie Adams and was wife of Ernie Kovacs. She is stil alive as of September 2008, and was among the first TV archivists. She was the one who discovered the tragic fate of the DuMont Network archive.
4. It's a DuMont Broadcast for damns sake!
So sit back, relax and enjoy a mix of sexy 50's ladies and great singing.
