Jason Rohrer's first published album. Organic, electronic, instrumental music. Some of the tracks were computer-generated. Other tracks are much more approachable. Overall, however, the best word to describe this album is "weird." Recorded over several years from 1997-1999.

The first time I listened to this album was a month ago in May 2020, about 21 years after release. The album from the opening track on seemed to drone and was becoming auditory wallpaper until copper nickel drops. This track was the first to catch my attention from the opening chiming melody to the moving synth chords. However, the rest of the album seemed to follow the same droning persistent nature of the first half. copper nickel drops is a great track to me, perhaps invoking nostalgia from childhood video games like Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask, but it seems out of place in the context of the album. a real civilization, the following track, is also like something out of a video game, but after the first two minutes it quickly turns into wallpaper music again. The rest of the album and in particular, view, and 10 miles deep, are very out there but after listening the the first 9 tracks it hardly seems out of place nor weird at all.
Getting used to this album is kind of like getting used to not listening to it. I find this album great to work to because it's instrumental, and the 64kbps (I laughed when I first noticed) mp3 adds a mellow, unobtrusive texture. I actually ended up using audacity to add the metadata and convert these tracks to a standard bit rate because some of my music players would not play in that low of a quality, but don't mistake this to mean that the album itself is of bad quality.
Rohrer is a programmer, and a writer. I looked through his work before finding this album. I loved his avant-garde video games and I almost cried reading his hyperlink fiction story. Although I don't see him as a musician, I appreciate his attempt at defining himself in the world in a medium not standard to his usual skills. Rohrer's artistry bloomed then died again, and he no longer creates much, but this album takes us back to a time when he did. This album was made using technology and software that was limited in today's terms, that no one wants to return to. a curved geometry takes us to a time not that long ago when making music as a bedroom artist was different. I enjoy it for that and I wish Rohrer would take another try at making music.

Most of the songs in this album are on the weird side. I give this album two stars.
