Paul Tasker and John MaherThe Morris Ring Gets A New Squire, September 2008 (2008)

Would you like to try our new video/audio player ? (beta!)

At the Dartington Morris Ring Meeting in Totnes on Sunday September 7th 2008, we witnessed the handover of the staff of office for the Morris Ring Squire. The retiring Squire was Paul Reece (2006-8) of Thaxted Morris Men, the new Squire is Brian Tasker (2008-10) of Hartley Morris Men and Castleford Sword. In the video you see this ceremony, with a commentary from Bob Cross (Squire for 2004-6): firstly, Paul dances his jig; secondly, Paul rejoins his own side for a dance; thirdly, Brian dances with his own side; fourthly, Brian dances his jig, then is given the staff of office by the Fool. Brian was given the seal of office at the feast on the previous evening.
