I gotta be the first
This short film about a young visiting his mother
on mother's was combined effort of a young and creative Native-Amerixan name Jerel Damon and a somewhat shy but silly introvert (in a good way)middle aged born again Christian Bob Quigley.
The story was written by me and smoothed out by
erel. It was a sense of closure for me for I had not been back to Pa.(where I am from)since 1980. I never got to say goodbye either to my mother or father. So, I wrote this story and filmed it in Mesa, AZ. in 115 degree heat. The ending scece where the character is kneeling,
Jerel asked me, if I was really crying to which
I said,"Between the sweat and the tears I am not really sure.
The second character in the film was the music.
I asked a good friend in my church Kathie McMahon to write a piece for the film and she took up the challenge with bravado. The music makes the film seem to come to life. Jerel was delighted we had decided to do it w/o speaking. In his words, "It will make the audience pay close attention to what is unfolding before them."
I think it does; the music, the direction and screenplay as well as the story it does have life. I hope those who watch the film see it as we did and it "speaks" to them as well.
