Thanks
Saw this on TV while living in London 30 years ago. It btprought back a lot of memories. I've studied the true facts of this murder, & the sensational effect it had on Victorian culture, and felt this was an appropriately melodramatic version of the story. It's a pity the film changed the ending, as the true account is much more interesting. Google it to find out how Maria's mother actually solved the crime.

Unique beginning
This begins as a play for an audience or did I snooze off remembering another movie with the same characters? Nahh..
Anyway, the stage master (I guess that's his name) introduces us all to them before the play begins then it's like a regular movie with those old timey character voices and acting. I almost expected Snidely Whiplash and Nel tied to the railroad tracks with Dudly Doright coming to her rescue.
Still it was a darn entertaining flick and the suspense though somewhat predictable still good. Of course the introduction told us what was coming in the first few moments.
