Why this project is called Muslimgaze
In 2009, when I was working on another album and used some arabic sounding drums and rhythms, I thought I could expand on that some time in the future and make an experimental album with arabic elements. At the same time I had been becoming increasingly disgusted with the criminal,
racist, terrorist, apartheid State of Israel and wanted to raise awareness about some issues which I had become familiar with in my extensive research. Since both these ideas were connected to the Middle East, they were fused into one project. I'm not sure at what point I got the idea
of leaving out one letter from Muslimgauze but for a long time that was just a possibility I was considering. As I worked on the concept for this album, I realized there might actualy be more similarity between this and Muslimgauze than I had previously thought. Knowing Bryn Jones was not a practicing Muslim and never traveled to the Middle East, which is the same for me, I began to understand where he was going with his work as my own ideas for this project crystallized. Being a musician and also having some thoughts and views to share, I do it through music,
as that's the most logical platform available to me. As the music is instrumental, the message can mostly be conveyed through song titles and cover artwork. Looking back at the work of Muslimgauze it is now clear to me that Bryn Jones followed a very similar pattern, and since I didn't come up with any other good ideas for a name anyway, I settled on Muslimgaze in the end.
This album is also a tribute to Bryn Jones and Muslimgauze, one of the most prolific artists and one of the most unique musical projects ever.
This album is dedicated to the people of Palestine, as well as other Middle-Eastern countries terrorized by the Zionist empire, to all who died trying to help and protect the Palestinians from Israeli destruction, like Rachel Corrie, and to those who are still fighting for freedom of the Palestinians and other victims of Zionism, like Ken O'Keefe and many others.
