On August 10, 2004, MAS gave OK for archive.org inclusion:
The band "Mutual Admiration Sociey" is a band comprised of Glen Phillips and Nickel Creek.
Glen Phillips has given approval for these shows to be hosted on the archive, and Nickel Creek's management has agreed, see below exchange:
Fan Jeff Lester asked:
"Subject: Trading policy w/Glen clarification
Hello,
I'd like to ask a couple specific questions about the
trading policy and how it pertains to shows with Glen
Phillips. Glen has graciously allowed us to be "Etree
friendly" with regard to downloading SHN (losslessly
compressed WAV) files of his shows, including allowing
his shows to be available from the Etree Audio section
at the Internet Archive:
http://archive.org/
http://archive.org/audio/etreelisti...Glen%20Phillips
This obviously conflicts with the stated Nickel Creek
trading policy of not allowing shows to be available
for download. So I have several questions:
1) Is it okay for archive.org to host Glen shows where
Nickel Creek or members of Nickel Creek sit it on what
was presented as a Glen Phillips show? The answer to
this seems to me to be an obvious yes, since it's
Glen's show and you are just guests, so his
taping/trading policy should override. If you look at
the shows that are in the archive, you can see that
there a couple already there (8/18/02 Joe's Pub and
9/11/02 Largo) that fit in this category. I sure hope
you don't ask to get these taken done because I
alerted you to their presence. :-(
2) What would be your policy on the "Mutual Admiration
Society" shows? . This would be a different category
than #1, since the shows were billed as Glen and
Nickel Creek "Mutual Admiration Society:, not just
Glen. Would you allow the Internet Archive to host
these shows in their entirety? Would you allow the
Internet Archive to host these shows, but with the
removal of the "Nickel Creek" part of the set, thus
allowing the Glen+NC to be posted?
3) At the aforementioned 2/5/02 Largo show, Sean and
Sara played a wonderful 30 min set as opening act,
then sat in with Glen for about half of his 90 min
set. I would like to have the Internet Archive host
the entire show, including Sean and Sara's opening
set. Is that okay?

To which Nickel Creen Mgt. replied (via their webmaster):
"Subject: Fwd: RE: Trading policy w/Glen clarification
Hi Jeff,
The word back from John Peets is that everything you
mentioned is ok.
Thanks!
Kathy the webmaster"
link to Glen's policy below:
http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-band-details.php?band=Glen%20Phillips
The only currently hosted "Glen Phillips" show that would have to be transferred to the new category would be:
http://www.archive.org/details-db.php?mediatype=etree&identifier=glen2001-10-20.shnf
as it was bill as "Mutual Admiration Society" where as the other shows currently on the archive were billed as "Glen Phillips" shows with Nickel Creek guesting.
No soundboard recordings or official releases may be posted.
Thanks for your time,
Chris Berryman
