Nairobi Conversations â Sauti Nairobi
presents collections of clips which are the results of creative encounters and collective productions of some artists and collectives across the city of Nairobi in May/ June 2010; including Nairobi Arts Trust (Jimmy Ogonga ), rhyme fm (MC Shenzy); Ukooflani Mau Mau (Gas Fyatu, Abdilai, Fujo), Kalamashaka (Robert), Pamoja fm (Philip Muhatia, Ras Juli & Jahil of âPass the Micâ), artists at Kuona Trust (Sydney, Morris Foit), Carl Odera (journalist) and radio continental drift (claudia wegener). The conversations and productions are continuing and we hope that interested on-line listeners will join in as we speak. Please do get in touch if our words strike a common cord. Your comments, questions, remixes will feed the fire⦠the struggle continues!

These pages present a collection of clips from a two hours conversation between MC Shenzy and Gas Fyatu of Rhyme fm and radio continental drift in the garden of Alliance Francaise in the inner city of Nairobi, 22 May 2010; following the escalations of 2007, the artists assess the current socio-political situation in which creative producers find themselves, and the challenges, limits and opportunities they see for interaction, interference, moving change through the arts. Reference is made i.a. to Nairobi graffiti culture and the artist Bank Slave in particular.

radio continental drift
a broad casting house in the bag of a drifter
out to here unheard voices
a branch of the growing networks of sound workers,
audio artists, radio communities, and the street corner academies of listening and broadcasting
around the world
radio is happening
when people loiter in public places
the air is free!
