Subject: From the pole vault to the pulpit!
Subject: From the pole vault to the pulpit!
This volume starts out with another Korean war manouver! I tell ya, how many of these can you have and make it look entertaining? At least we get a great shot of supplies being thrown off a plane and parachuting to the ground. Looks like some of them got tangled and/or didnt open. Aside from that and a shot of MacArthur, same old same old..
Next, the French premier visits the US! 4 days of conferences!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MACCARTHUR!
The President of Brazil is reelected! Hurray!
Next comes a spotlight on the Red Cross.. Hmm.. This reel is very news-light.. Anyways, this spotlight is actually quite good! The Red Cross is there at war, taking care of the war wounded, and at home when disaster strikes! They also train people for nuclear preparedness!
Next, we see vehicles that can run underwater! This is the third time in the archives Ive seen these vehicles, and it still baffles me of what use they will be. Loved the demo in the tank in Marineland, with the fishes still in it!
Next the Navy salutes its air squadron1 Well, just one, as we see an old time plane with its equally old time pilot.
Next! Model railroads! We see one of the largest railroad displays in North America, and the nerd er I mean MEN who maintain it! Lots and lots of wires and parts and different things you can do! Guess these men dont have girlfriends..
On the Religion front, Ah!! The chapel of the 4 Chaplains! This is a great segment! It showcases the opening of the Chapel, which is named after 4 chaplains, 2 Protestant, 1 jewish and one catholic. They even have a revolving altar, depending on the ceremony! This is GREAT!
Off to sports! We see some track champions.. Don Gehrmann! Jum Fuchs! (loved the indoor shotputting!) Robert Richards! He breaks the pole vault record! He jumps up and down in the sawdust! Hes a reverend, and the narrator amusing states he splits his time between the pulpit and the pole vault! Ha1 Brilliant!
In the next segment, Australia is explored, as this the 50th anniversary since its inception. After a big parade, the film then goes into Encyclopedia mode, telling of all the animals.. (LOVE the shot of the dog walking all over the sheep) We then see the Royal Easter Show, a huge event (for the Australians) that features Cattle judging and horse competition. Of course, theyre also competent soldiers! We see some of the Aussie army in action, then go to politics, education, and another overview of the cities.
