Subject: Classic newsreel from 1951
Subject: Classic newsreel from 1951
I confess to having a love of newsreels. When I was a kid, a night at the movies included a cartoon, a newsreel, and the movie itself.
In 1951, television was not yet widespread, and the newsreel made world events as real as they could get. Some of us tend to romanticize a time when news wasn't biased, but that is certainly not the case here, nor was it with any other newsreels. Sponsored by Liberty National Life Insurance, and produced by Warner Bros., this newsreel covered the major events of the times.
+UN Forces at the 38th parallel in Korea
+UN Planners having a peace meeting in Santiago
+US normalizes relations with Spain's Franco
+Defense Sec. Marshall swears in 700 civil defence workers
+Vice President Alben Barkley sets the all-time record for congressional service - 38 years.
+The UK's Canberra jet bomber is christened
+An Italian countess creates are with leaves and grass
+Skater Dick Button wins an international championship
+Gen. James Moore of the Confederate Army dies at 99
+Historic America
This is a classic. You certainly get a sense of the times.
