Subject: great ad!

This is a another great ad on this website. I showed by mum and she thought it was amazing. I think this is worth downloading.

Historical interest 5/5, fun factor 5/5, "i cant believe i found it!" factor 5/5.

Coffee in the ice box - why that's non-sense, Poopsy!
No, dear! (insert giggle) It's vacuum-packed NoneSuch Coffee! And at only $0.29 per lb. (plus 3 cents for the bottle deposit) I saved enough to buy the darned ice to keep the stuff cool, dear!

This NoneSuch coffee was surely owned by Fridgidaire! Also, this ad proves that even the biggest of ideas had the smallest of starts. NoneSuch coffee no more, ice boxes, vacuum packaging, bottle deposits, idiot husbands, all still going strong!

Subject: Better for marriages than Folgers

"The way to a man's heart is through his coffee," this ad tells us. Especially if you keep it in the icebox. Well, Mr. Jones here is a lot more easy going than the nitpicking husbands we see in the Folgers coffee ads here in the Archives. Mr. Jones just gulps down the coffee and walks out the door. No need for a Mrs. Olsen to patch things up. The ad promises that if not satisfied, women can return the coffee to the grocers with "no argument." This implies that in 1934, when this ad was made, women frequently returned items and got into arguments with storekeepers. Pretty understandable on both sides, considering it was the Depression and every penny counted.

Quick and to the point. Good job for its time.

Subject: "Whaaaa??!?!? Keeping the coffee in the ice-box?"

A great commercial from over seventy years ago. Apparently the notion of keeping coffee in the ice box was quite foreign in 1934, so Mr. Jones is very amused. You will be too when you download this film.

Subject: Ads at the movies

Don't you hate it when they show commercials before the movies? Apparently it's been going on since the 1930s.

Subject: Honey! You're putting the coffee in the icebox?

Rather loopy ad for a coffee called 'Nonesuch', the name which strikes me as a little odd. Anyways, husband wonders why the wife puts the coffee in the icebox. Why to keep Nonesuch's flavor! Wifey pours another cup for him, husband sort of waves her off and drinks it. You can plainly see there's no coffee in his cup. Anyways, 29 cents a pound during the movieweek special! Run! Run! Run!
