In The News: President Obama left DC town after dinner last night and flew to Copenhagen Denmark to hard sell Chicago as the venue for the 2016 Summer Olympics, but despite the effort "...it was the first city the committee eliminated.". Then he met General McChrystal and bundled him on board Air Force One for a one-on-one briefing regarding Afghanistan. The burning question: "Can Obama Say No To His Generals On Afghanistan?".
Also, a number of environmental activists were arrested during his visit to Copenhagen (3 arrested, 40 released). They were protesting "...the slow pace of international climate change negotiations.". Here's why they're there: "With Copenhagen Summit Approaching, Leading Polluters US and China Undercut Hopes of Substantial Pollution Cuts". If you really want the gist of what should be North America's continental embarrassment, also see: "Why Europeans Are Kicking Our Butts When it Comes to Living Green"
The US and Iran have held talks on Iran's nuclear program and the talks were successful with two agreements so far. Of course Iran will let the IAEA inspect their facilities (They ALWAYS said they would...). Also, their current refining site could be closed and all the spent fissionable material moved to Russia for re-processing and then returned to Iran for nuclear fuel, totally 'disarming' any idea that they were manufacturing weapons grade materials. More.
The Senate Finance Committee is still working over the details of the Health Care bill. The "Free Choice" amendment which "...would come into play if employers failed to offer their workers meaningful choice of affordable plans." is under fire.
Senators Violating Federal Law - Today is the day the that the Honduran coup leaders say they might take the legitimate president of the country from the Brazilian embassy by force and Senator DeMint, enamored with the Honduran Coup makes a number of statements that apparently violate the (Dolan Act?) Foreign Agents Registration Act which makes it illegal for federal legislators or anyone else to engage in foreign policy matters on behalf of another nation. DeMint wants to visit Honduras but was refused the expense voucher by Senator Kerry, chair of the Finance Committee. "Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). The Republican leader appealed to the Defense Department to provide an aircraft for DeMint's trip and the Pentagon agreed to do so,"!
