The story of how oil is brought up from far down in the earth is exciting! So says narrator Don McNamara.
It's not really, but this story is basic and suited for children.
Frith films are either chock full of animals or kids that McNamara talks to. This one has a boy named Bob Gaffner who McNamara chuckles at while riding an oil spool. The boy doesn't hear him because the short is silent footage with sound added afterward.
You have to love how everyone around Bob in one scene is wearing a safety helmet, but he isn't. How'd he get on the site?

Frith films tears itself away from those darn puppies for a while (See Mother Mack trains her puppies) and goes to the oil rigs! Bob and HIS terrier (Sigh..) go to the oil rigs for a REALLY productive day, for he sees an oil rig being built, one being dismantled, a rig catching fire, oil being shipped out, oil tankers coming in, and finally, in the most hilarious scene, investigates a burned out hull where a fire broke out and "many people died and people, with oil burning on them, jumped into the water!". Although much of it is sort of dry and boring, Bob sorta makes up for it with his seemingly no barred access to the oil rigs and shipping, wandering around, sometimes with the dog, sometimes not.

Good elementary school post WWII educational film about how crude oil is drilled for, pumped out, and transported. While pointing out the importance of oil, it understates the importance of oil to the US economy, the rapidly growing dependance on oil, and mentions nothing of the danger in this or its environmental impact. Excellent color.
