This band does it right! They play together incredibly well and breathe real life into these songs. They had some very interesting jams at this show too (the segue from Estimated > Scarlet, and the tail end of Scarlet in particular). They nail both the Jerry and Bobby tunes ("Bobby's" vocals were great!) and everyone in the audience was loving it, a wonderful evening in Cambridge. I crossed the finish line to Feel Like A Stranger and I couldn't have been happier.

Oh, and there was a guy there with his dog towards the front. He was holding up his cell phone, bleary eyed, saying "They sound just like the Dead dude" over and over again to whoever was in earshot, while every now and then someone would make sure the dancing heads didn't accidentally step on the doggie.

Subject: Nice

Yeah, it certainly was great night on the Charles and the recording certainly does it justice. It was great watching these guys play just feet from the river. Always a fun time. Thanks for a great recording.

Notes

Another beautiful night on the Charles River for Playing Dead at the annual Jerry Garcia Memorial River Run. Lineup for the night: Vic DeRobertis (lead guitar), Jim Harris (rhthym guitar), Tony Ryon (drums), Brian Epstein (drums), Mark Munzer (keyboards), John Brigham (bass). This show was dedicated to the memory of Tom Zankel, who passed away a week earlier. Fare you well, Tommy.
