Dori Smith of WHUS Storrs CT and radio production "Talk Nation" covers breaking news about the so-called Time Square Bomber, Connecticut resident Faisal Shahzad. Faisal Shahzad is charged with making the homemade explosive device found in the Nissan Pathfinder left running, and on fire, in Time Square.
Pakistani Journalist Rahimullah Yusufzai, senior editor at The News, a newspaper in Peshawar, Pakistan, speaks to us by phone from Pakistan about Shahzad's background in the US and Pakistan and the political climate surrounding US and Pakistani relations.
Yusufzai offers us a portrait of a Shahzad, who originates from Peshawar, Pakistan. His liberal secular family family still lives in the region. Yusufzai describes their confusion and the shock over what has happened, as well as others'suspicion that a deeper intrigue may be going on surrounding the arrest of Shahzad. Yusufzai also describes ongoing tensions in this city near the Afghan border in the aftermath of intense terror attacks.
Finally on Sprouts, we try our hand at retracing Shahzad's planned steps leading up to his leaving for New York in a Pathfinder with plates from a Ford Truck that had been parked at Kramers Used Auto Parts in Stratford, Connecticut.
Details about Faisal Shahzad have been unfolding here in Connecticut where the 30 year old naturalized citizen lived for almost a decade in relative obscurity before nearly causing harm in New York. He attended college, and worked for several companies including Affinion Group in Norwalk, a finance and marketing company that also does work on identity theft and data breach resolutions for clients.
Members of the media are still in a frenzy to find even the smallest new detail about Faisal Shahzad, questions are being raised internationally, and bloggers have been sifting through a myriad of Facebook pages, only some of which actually represent true photographs, and posts by Faisal Shahzad and his American wife Huma Mian.
