Matt 'JugadorJ3' CookPerfect Dark (N64) - Single-segment 0:29:35 - Matt Cook (2005)

Single-segment speed run of Perfect Dark on Agent mode done on January 4 2005. On the first level a glitch is used that leaves the game world, falling through the void outside the level and landing on the trigger for the next level. The time listed is real time not the game's time.

Author's comments:
I was originally planning to speed run the game on perfect agent, but the fun of the agent difficulty soon took over. I decided to time my run using real time rather than the game timer because it allows some strats that are unheard of, even by some of the most veteran players. It also takes away a lot of boring timesaving tricks and watching of repetitive cinemas. The run consists of 17 levels, as it was decided that the "bonus" missions were unneccessary, plus accessing them would involve resetting after the final real level (credits start automatically).

Comments on levels and times:

Defection - 0:16 - Rather than time the cinema to land directly on the guard's head, I decided it was faster to open the door myself and use it to glitch into the elevator.
Investigation - 1:58 - I found that I could get faster "bot" target times by watching no cinema. This run was a personal record for this strat.
Extraction - 1:02 - Tried to kill all the guards down the bottom, but i was a bit "cold" and failed dismally to kill most. Still, they didn't kill Dr Carrol so it worked out fine.
Villa - 1:16 - A very clean run text-book run resulted in a time that would have beaten WRs from back in the day.
Chicago - 0:21 - There is never much variation in this level, but the laser bot took a while to move so I could throw the mine.
G5 - 1:59 - A clean run, utilising efficient cloaked room strats helped me lose very little time on this difficult level. I didn't watch the cinema because, frankly, it's boring. ;)
Infiltration - 1:20 - One time I actually managed to PR on this level in speed runs, however a half-second error cause me to miss the final lift and lose a few more seconds. Still a respectable time by any standards.
Rescue - 1:39 - Real time gets it's advantages - I discover that calling the quitting the cinema immediately and calling the lift yielded very satisfying speed advantages from a perfect 2nd lift. Only a crazy unshootable (I had bad aim:-D) guard cost me any time.
Escape - 2:35 - This is a very easy level and I achieved a fast time using a strategy that has probably never changed since people first played the game.
Air Base - 1:33 - Luckily the stewardess (who can be in 2 places) was in the good place, saving seconds. The run was clean apart from failing to blow up some glass with a proximity Dragon to save some time.
Air Force 1 - 1:12 - No combat boosts makes this level a little tougher than normal, as a bad framerate causes guards to be hard to hit. I didn't speech skip, of course, so my time is fairly respectable.
Crash Site - 1:46 - Oh dear. This level is most frustrating. All the fast strats involve so much luck, so I had to opt for a consistent strat that lost about 5 seconds. Still, it was a solid run with little error other than a stubborn president.
Pelagic 2 - 1:16 - 2 annoying levels in a row. Unfortunately, on a PAL system, the GPS/autopilot guys have the tendancy to often (ie more often than on NTSC) decide that they'll walk around in circles rather than complete their objective as the lady with the gun told them. Hence, I opted to wait until they would surely complete. This time is slow compared to the world record, but is decent for a speed run (no speech skipping, waiting for guys, no pausing for xray)
Deep Sea - 2:47 - You guessed it; the third unlucky level in a row. Elvis is a known pest, and he has often fallen victim to a double shotgun blast to the head when he comes to the rendezvous thirty seconds late for no apparent reason. Fortunately Elvis came fast on this run and allowed me to get a very decent time. Note, again, I'm playing on a PAL system so I am able to Farsight the PA cannisters to complete the megaweapon disablement objective.
Defense - 1:12 - A consistent level for a change. No combat boosts is a refreshing change from this normally slow-paced level, and made killing the hostage takers fast a fun piece of gaming. I was fairly frightened near the skedar ship when 3 guys blocked my intended path... yikes. Luckily I recovered.
Attack Ship - 2:40 - Elvis makes a displeasing return to this level, though I invented a consistent strat to make him warp to the navigation room at acceptable speed. It's possible to simply charge through the whole level and have him complete by chance, but it wasn't one I wanted to take. Quick, solid skedar kills allowed Elvis to live for a change.
Skedar - 1:27 - A fairly easy final level ended this speed run on a good note. Good pillars and a friendly king (he didn't warp) kept my total time below 30 minutes.

Funny events that occurred or ones that often screwed my efforts for a good time:

Investigation - I invented a trick where you place the camspy where the lasers come up as the bot is coming to you, so they can't come back up, but on a few runs i tried to collect the camspy and they would spring up and boost me to the wrong side of the lasers. This timesaver was quickly discarded.
Villa - "Hmm, how come I don't have the keycard?" *quits*... Sometimes I would have really bad aim at the start and take over 8 bullets to kill the guys. Needless to say I quickly aborted. I didn't lose much time, but I wouldn't dare have anyone see me be so pathetic.
Chicago - I threw the mine and detonated it immediately for no reason.
G5 - Before I realised collecting a shield was good, sometimes the explosion at the end would kill me. Doh!
Infiltration - I called the final lift, the proceeded to disarm/punch the guy near it. The lift opened. I press B to shut it and get in. I turn around. The idiot is just standing there, preventing the door from shutting. "Get out of the ******* way, you ******* *******" *throws controller*.
Escape - The guy who stands near the completion computers is a real bum. I went to kill him on one run but couldn't see him, so I left. I go get Elvis and bring him to Jon, to find Jon poorly trying to shoot the guard that has finally appeared. I fire at him, only to shoot the gun out of his hands, causing him to run around wildly back and forth. 90 rounds later he's dead. Then Jon runs up to kill the guy (who is dead already, of course). He gets up there, realises he's dead and starts to return to the bottom area. Then I try to kill Jon, 30 rounds later he's alive. I curse and turn off the Nintendo. :(
Air Force 1 - "Security! Security!", as I accidentally step out of his view. Damn.
Crash site - ... I don't want to talk about it. Let's just say that more often than not the bad pres would live, or the good pres would die.
P2 - Damn you fools! Can't you just press the button??? Many, many times I returned to the GPS guys to see them having a dance party at my expense.
DS - Damn you Elvis. Damn you. It's sad, yet still funny when you run back to see what he's doing and he's running in slow motion. WTF.
Attack Ship - "OMG, this is an awesome run.. this could get under 30 minutes, I hope Elvis doesn't die". I don't think I need to tell you what happens next.

And so ends a chapter of torment :)

Good run, I would like to see a run for secret agent and perfect agent, this would be pretty nice! Good work, and check on cyberscore.net, you can put your records there too ;)

Pretty good speed runs, good timing on the levels.
Just to add to previous review by VGSS - Reviews are based on the Speed Run, not on the video Quality, the video is just proof of its completion.

Subject: my head assplode
fails so hard for having mono sound, and being in .wmv format to make it a pain in the ass to correct.
