Speed run of Pikmin getting all 30 parts in 10 game days, with only the minimum required 50 pikmin, and no deaths, completed on May 21 2004. For over a year this was the fastest possible way to complete the game with the minimal pikmin, but in early August 2004, Distant Spring was dropped to 2 days and now there is a 9 day recording.
Author's comments:
Well, first, big props go out to Ahlyis, since he originally came up with the idea of the 50-pikmin-challenge. Many of the strategies I used are either identical to his (Forest of Hope) or roughly based on them (Distant Spring).
I spent about a week on this, with some of that time spent experimenting in Distant Spring to see if there was any way to get that level cleared in 2 days instead of 3 (not to mention a rather embarrassing incident where I erased my file halfway through and had to restart). The great amount of parts that must be carried with only blue pikmin in DS seem to exclude any strategy for a 2-day completion.
There are a few mistakes here and there in each day (not to mention some pure bad luck, like getting the snagret to come up fast 4 or 5 times before he'd finally cooperate and die). Still, this is still very nice overall. So watch and enjoy.
