Michael King is the News Editor of the Austin Chronicle, where he has reported on state and city politics since 2001, and writes the weekly column, “Point Austin.” Born a Hoosier in Northwest Indiana, he was educated at Indiana University and Yale University, receiving a Ph.D. in 1977. He edited The Spectator in Bloomington, Indiana, an early 60s underground paper. He was in the English Department of UT Austin from 1977 to 1985, and has worked in shoe stores and steel mills, libraries and law firms. He has been the editor of the Houston Press and The Texas Observer, and has reported and written widely on education, politics, and cultural subjects.
