Author's comments:
This was my first attempt at a speed run, so I was happy with it for the most part. My goal was 2:10, which is not very lofty in grand terms, but I also plan to improve this time. My new goal is to break 2 hours in a single segment.
As for mistakes, I get grabbed by enemies and injured once in a while, which is to be expected when the segment is so long. I'm not too disappointed in those errors. My Del Lago battle could have been faster, and the area before the crank room was a little sloppy.
The first of the major "avoidable" errors was the arrow puzzle/security device in Chapter 5-1. I messed up and I guess I just lost my mind for a minute... well, perhaps not that long, but it was indeed longer than it should have been.
Next, was my absolutely horrendous Krauser battle. Please, please, please, don't attempt to fight Krauser the way I did. I start off on the wrong foot by taking a risk and using my Chicago Typewriter instead of my knife. Sometimes it works, but this time (of course) it triggered an extended button mashing sequence. Then I took a wrong turn before the homing mines, giving them enough time to completely ambush me. Finally, I go for the CT method of killing him and I think it took about 12-15 seconds instead of the possible 6 or so that I could have done via a grenade/rocket launcher. Oh well...
The rest of the run is fairly good, and I even had some good luck at certain points. I was pleased with my U3 battle, as well as the final two action sequences before Saddler.
Like I said, I plan to improve this, so expect to see something under 2 hours eventually. The problem is simply that a failed run takes so much energy out of me that when I finally got 2:07:58 I was just so glad to finish it that I was satisfied for the time being. Most likely I'm going to attempt a segmented New Game to take a break from the long segment run.
