The film is set during World War I. A "French Cambodian" contingent had heard strange stories about zombification--supposedly Angkor Wat was built by utilizing zombies--and there are tales of zombie armies easily overcoming foes. Armand Louque (Dean Jagger) brings back a priest who supposedly knows the secret of zombification, but he won't talk. So Louque and an international military contingent head to Angkor Wat on an archaeological expedition designed to discover the secret of zombification and destroy the information before zombies have a chance to "wipe out the white race".

Revolting
You know all about movies that are so bad they're good. Well, this "melodrama" is so awful it's fascinating. You'll never run across a worse screenplay with dialog that's simultaneously pompous and incredibly juvenile. You'll never encounter worse acting from an entire cast, and that includes the casts of Ed Wood's infamous disasters. What's amazing is Dean Jagger, who is truly awful (I mean really, really bad), later emerged as one of Hollywood's most respected actors. There is camp by the truck load in dramatic love scenes that will give you the giggles, and actors walking in place against moving rear-screen projections. However, even a movie this bad can have a few redeeming features. The cinematography is fine, the imagery well crafted and at times even beautiful. Nevertheless, this one is strictly for lovers of atrocious film making. Three stars as a curiosity. FOOTNOTE: There is a final mystery. This movie was made by the same team that just months earlier had produced the classic and highly successful "White Zombie." So what the hell happened?

very slow and boring
Without even putting it on pause, I checked my email, and Facebook and Plaxo, then I checked the snailmail, then I received a package from FedEx that contained a bottle of Torani sugar-free raspberry syrup. I then sat back down to the movie, and it was still boring. There are much better zombie movies out there.
