A pleasant number. The musicans do pay attention to Johnny Long's conducting once in a while.(One of the reviewers felt they didn't)

You have to admit, his conducting style is a little indistinct. I LOVE this song.

I grew up listening to this song and hearing stories about life in the road with Johnny's orchestra. My grandfather was a drummer for Johnny Long and was proud to talk about it. His name is Floyd Sullivan. He passed away a few years ago but left us many photos and stories.

Ahhh Johnny Long!! I first saw Johnny Long in Leonard Maltin's great soundie set that was put out a couple of years ago. He was put in the 'bad soundie' category with his memorable lip synching of 'When I'm Too Old To Dream'. Unfortunately, he doesn't do much better in this soundie. But who cares? This is a GREAT song, and I just love his orchestra, who all get into the song and play and sing the heck out of it. Fun Fun Fun!

I'm surprised that this Soundie is listed as being performed by an unknown orchestra. This is Johnny Long and his orchestra performing one of their big hits. This band was very popular in the 1940s and developed a style where the band became a chorus on almost every performance. In the 40's the vocal was usually done by a featured vocalist who only sang the chorus after the band had played the verse and perhaps even the first chorus. So using the band members as a chorus gave Johnny Long a distrinctive sound for his group.
I have this number on an old 78rmp record. It was great seeing this performed. And, in a style that was typical to band "leaders", notice that Johnny Long does a good job waving his hands in tme to the music but virtually none of the performers are paying any attention to him.
