Sousas BandSousa's Band - Chinese Blues (January 1, 1916)

Oscar Gardner's 1915 ragtime piece "Chinese Blues", performed by Sousa's band in this recording from early 1916. Some of these old tunes had a surprisingly long and varied life; in the mid-1930s this one re-emerged as Little Brother Montgomery's "Chinese Man Blues". From the original 12" 78rpm disk.

Subject: Is it me or...
Does this song sound rather tired and could have been so much better if they put some oomph into it? The composition's there, like the instruments (and the solo!) but the one thing that's missing is it's heart. and that's too bad.
