"Stacy and I first met in November, 1992 when I was working on the first Clinton/Gore presidential transition team and she came to lecture at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. I had my video camera with me but it was not the time or place for an interview. We next saw each other at the American Himalayan Fund dinner in June, 2003 in San Francisco honoring Sir Edmund Hillary on the 50th anniversary of his being first to summit Everest. Again, it was not the place for an interview. So in August 2006, I went to Seattle and Portland to do the interviews with Jim Whittaker, first American on Everest, and Stacy.
This interview not only covers her experiences twice on Everest, on K2, Denali and other mountains, but also the enormous personal problems she had to overcome to achieve such great successes in mountaineering and in her life to date no in a second marriage with two children. Over the years I've heard a lot of stories from mountaineers but I can't think of anyone in the American climbing community for whom I have greater respect than Stacy Allison." John Martin Meek
