We will keep fighting for all libraries - stand with us!
Matthew – saz Stef – guitar, vocals Nate – guitar, mandolin, cello, vocals, fiddle(?), bass(?) Jeff – bass(?) "The Cuckoo" and "Sally Gardens" are traditional. The melody to the former is closely based on the Pentangle arrangement from their Basket of Light album, and the latter is familiar as an Irish ballad. Stef wanted these brief instrumentals on her album to constrast to the "Americanised" versions of "The Cuckoo" (about gambling, etc.) and "Willow Gardens" (sensationalised as a gruesome murder ballad) which will also be included. "The Moon Man" is a Michael Hurley song Stef had taught us down at the Suwannee Springfest weeks earlier (learned off a paper plate by candlelight, as I remember it). Apparently Michael Hurley took the words from someone else's poem. These were all recorded at Jeff Sachs' home studio near Adams-Friendship, Wisconsin. Apparently cuckoos don't even inhabit the United States! |
