I second that best version comment
...and it's most definitely better than the Rundgren version as well. He was trying to be the Beatles. But you guys are just being yourselves and some cross pollination naturally occurs. The end is fantastic. Excellent vocals. Very good job.

Strawberry Field Gates Found!!!
The song that was left off of 'Sgt. Pepper's..." album because of it's release as a single, had as much impact on what a pop song should and could sound like as the following LP's impact on what an album could be. Later released on the American, "Magical Mystery Tour" LP, the song itself is a quite a journey in itself. On first listen, Brian Wilson reportedly scrapped the Beach Boys "Smile" album, and it had a mind-blowing affect on many other pop musicians of the day.
"Strawberry Fields Forever" has been covered many times over the years, but never with such appreciation for the magic and mystery of the original track as Strap-On Sweetie's recent redeux. My favorite element of this song has always been the many scene changes created by the four refrains in the song, which gives the impression of repeated euphoria and child-like wonder as the tune launches again and again into Lennon's poetry. Here is where Strap-On Sweetie steals the gates from the original! Listen to the rocket ship crescendos that seem to leave me looking at the ceiling on every listen, with wonder...
As a cover it pays homage to the original in tone and composition. The SOS version seems to have stepped on the accelerator a bit and made tasteful use of synth sounds that the Beatles would have drooled over had they been available in 1967. This new cover could liven up a peaceful night at home or give the dance floor a dreamy segue and a thoughtful breath of forever. From the rhymes to the chimes, the orchestral sheen to the tambourine... this is a great reproduction!
So strap it on sweetie and take a ride back to a more innocent time!
