Chris EdwardsTapestry of Truth (2005)
Manchester, UK. 2001-2005. This is an hour long video of the most memorable and inspiring scenes from the anti-war movement in Manchester, UK in the period 2001-2005 (the story that the British media forgot to report). It also shows the emergence of the anti-war political coalition, Respect, from this movement.
The title of this video is inspired by Harold Pinter's comment in his Nobel Prize speech:
"...To maintain that power it is essential that people remain in ignorance, that they live in ignorance of the truth, even the truth of their own lives. What surrounds us therefore is a vast tapestry of lies, upon which we feed."
He might have added that the silence from the media is frequently deafening. This video attempts to fill part of the reporting gap left by the corporate media.
This video is being released now to encourage anti-war activists to attend the national Stop the War Coalition demonstration on 23rd September 2006 in Manchester, England. The demonstration is timed to coincide with the annual Labour Party conference which is being held in Manchester this year. The video is deep background on the Manchester anti-war scene over the past few years.
A 5 minute trailer of this film can be found here.
Delegations from anti-war groups overseas are welcome to attend. Bring your banners!
On Sunday 24th September there is the Stop the War Alternative Conference at Manchester University. It will be an alternative to the stage-managed Labour conference where dissent is stifled.
