It has been four decades since 14 African-American players were kicked off the University of Wyoming football team after requesting to wear black armbands during a game against Brigham Young University in protest of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' ban on African-American followers becoming priests. In this oral history with Judge James Barrett, who was then Wyoming's Attorney General, Barrett shares his recollections and thoughts on the event. This series of interviews is produced for the wyoming State Archives by Sue Castaneda. The interviewer is Wyoming historian Mark Junge. The entire project is funded by the Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund.
