Gene Autry - Lots of Music, Little Western Action
I hope you like Autry's singing, as well as that of the Sons of the Pioneers with Roy Rogers, Smiley Burnette and Irene Manning because that's what most of the movie consists of - basically a musical review sandwiched between a little action. The story is this: Irene Manning witnesses a murder by Eastern gangster John Bradford (Scarlatti) and fearing for her life heads West. When her bus is robbed by Rogers and the Sons, passenger small-time crooked gambler Cornelius Keefe (Simms) sees her picture in a newspaper and decides to make some easy money handing her over to Bradford. While a town celebration is going on, Bradford and his henchman arrive. You know what's going to happen - how it happens is the question. Autry gets to kiss Manning at the end. Manning was a trained opera singer, who also sang in Broadway musicals before and after her early film career - between 1936-45 she appeared in 14 movies and later on between 1951-55 in 5 TV series. IMDb also tells us its 57:00, but here we get 53+. Its not much of a western, but there's some good singing - if that's your idea of fun.
