This is the movie that made Rudolph Valentino a star. Written by June Mathis it was released in 1921 and was the best selling movie of that year. It went on to tbe th 6th best selling silent of all time, and at one point it was likely the highest grossing movie of all time due to rereleases (it was bumped by Gone with the Wind's release). Viewers, don't let the length put you off, this is a great movie. This movie landed Valentino solidly in the public eye, the way The Sheik would later launch him into stardom, and Cobra and The Eagle would prove he deserved to be there. I don't want to spoil it for anyone so I'll stop there. Thanks for this (downloaded) much appreciated.

I recently saw The Eagle a later Valentino film and so that naturally led me to this the film that made Valentino's reputation.
I had hoped to see the tinted film with the Carl Davis score. Sadly the score for this film only occasionally seemed congruent to the emotional tone of the visuals. However the chance to watch the film at all is something that deserves all our thanks. So thank you Internet Archive!

This is the first film to make Valentino a star, its also one of the first anti war films. Made in 1921 it was June Mathis' own Birth of a Nation. Its a fantastic film that went on to be one of the best selling in history, reportedly it made anywhere between $6 million and $9 million during the 1920s.
Valentino is fantastic in it, and I like his little monkey friend (who has the coolest monkey wardrobe ever). The other actors are fantastic as well especially ''Kooky'' the spiritual guy with all the doom and gloom. FANTASTIC!
