"The Hut" is a bar on 4th Ave in Tucson, AZ. The building itself is a slightly modified quonset hut: big-ass corrugated steel arch, giant brick walls at both ends. Bob Weir famously referred to Winterland as an "acoustical snakepit" but The Hut is a habitat for more slithery sound creatures (maybe gila monsters, we're not sure). MSG found the frequencies that kept feeding back, though, and while none of the shows were totally free of sonic mischief, enough of the tracks impressed u enough to dice them up, run them through the blender, and serve them up to you on this cd and another that's coming someday.
Bonus note: This cd contains the first official release of a Randy-composed tune on a TDC product. Write us and let us know what you think.

At Gentle Ben's Friday night was Grateful Dead night. In the basement, upstairs--at the original Gentle Ben's. It wasn't that long ago, was it? Well, maybe it was.
The sound at The Hut is a lot better with the ceiling insulated and all. It helped a lot that they bought their own sound system, too. Not many local bands have enough PA equipment to play a room that size.
Now, do you remember Ju Ju's? That's was the first place I played Dead in Tucson.

This place used to have a steel ceiling/roof and acoustics were bad. The new management completely renovated and now have awesome acoustics thanks to massive insulation in the ceiling. Also, the elongated dome shape of the Quonsut architechture produces fantastic sound all the way to the back of the facillity. Top Dead Center now plays there a lot. As a Deadhead from the 70s, I love hearing them play there by far the best. No food but there are dozens of places a stones throw and there are lots of tables in and outside to eat at. The bartenders keep all the menus at the bar so we just order by phone. No other place comes so close to replicating the experience of the old Gentle Ben's. Anybody remember the Grateful Dead Happy hours in the Basement????
