Predecessor the 70s version Treasure Hunt
This show was the predecessor to the revival of the 1970s Chuck Barris Productions version of Treasure Hunt. In this version, contestants must answer questions correctly and the one who wins gets to go on a "treasure hunt" (this was dropped for the remake). The boxes aren't as colorful as the 70s version but are cute treasure chests instead. Even the accordion music adds to the fun of this show.
Jan Murray does a so-so job as host and could've done better.

Treasure Hunt with Jan Murray
What Luck!!! I came across your web page and viewed the old Jan Murray Treassure Hunt show. My dad was the guard in front of the safe that held the treasure chest number. My siblings and I would go back stage to see the contestants and Jan Murray rehearse before the show. My Dad, Sargent Rivera would put the money into the chest and only he and the producers would know wherre the money was in. This video brought back a lot of fond memories. Thank you for making it avaiable!!! Phil Rivera

Figured out the exact date
Using clues in the episode, I have determined that the date of this broadcast is March 20, 1958. The host says it is the day before Spring (March 20), and the ad for The Thin Man describes the episode "Bookworms" which aired March 21, 1958 according to TV.com. Also, the host says there is snow forecast for the day, and I checked on Almanac.com and indeed there was snow in NYC that day.

brings back memories
This will date me, but I used to watch this daytime show when I was too sick to go to school. Now, after 50 years, Jan Murray looks like he is not having fun with this program.
