This movie has too much humor in it to be film noir. I actually laughed once.
Also, you have to wait over an hour for someone to get killed. Unacceptable.
Nevertheless, the ending is satisfactory, because the owner of the company is trying to help his man out of a jam.

A well worn storyline.
Fair acting and a fair svcreenplay makes this a ho-hum flim. Not really noir but close.

After checking out so many noir flicks here I thought I was pretty hard-boiled, but the lead actor injected such remarkable pathos into this simple little morality tale that I couldn't help feeling sorry for the fool.
Moral of the story: if you waste your life fretting over your kids and job, then you'll go out like a sucker (and note that The Two Dollar Bettor could have gone down the same path with the stock market as with horse racing). But rob big, rob legit, lie with authority and you'll always win The Big Payoff - it worked for his boss (and all other bankers).

This is a good story for a B movie! Watch for the teenage football jock at the house dance parties they call Chuck. It's Carl Switzer who is better known as "Alfalfa" in the Little Rascals films.

I always enjoyed this. This morality tail shows how easily people are sucked in to gambling. It's fun to watch especially seeing the lead's teenage daughters dance the night away. Noir queen Marie Windsor plays the female lead. I'm still waiting for the sequel: Two-Dollar Hooker!

The first few minutes of the movie are rather simplified and cheesy, but the plot grows to the point of serious believability. Though the dialogue is a bit stilted, and the teenage acting rather weak it was a satisfying view to the sad outcome and the perils of betting.
